Each week I share short profiles about which places to pray for in China each day. Included in each introduction are links to more resources about the city and province to which it belongs. Follow me on X (@chinaadventures) to receive reminders each day.
*Scroll to the bottom for my explanation of how I decide which cities to pray for daily.
Each week I also record the China Compass podcast in which, usually near the end, I talk through the locations targeted for prayer that week, sharing any extra thoughts or stories that come to mind. Here are the unique places to pray for on July 13-19, 2025:
*Remember that today in China, thousands of pastors will continue to be detained/harassed/persecuted for faithfully leading their flocks. (Hebrews 13:3)*
Sun, July 13 - Pray for Dongfeng County in Jilin’s Liaoyuan Prefecture, China's “county for modern folk-painting”: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongfeng_County
Jilin (“Lucky Forest”) is paired with all of New England for prayer. For more about Jilin (including my podcast): https://prayforchina.us/index.php/jilin/
Mon, July 14 - Pray for Heishan (Black Mtn) County, the most populated in Jinzhou Prefecture in SE Liaoning Province: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heishan_County
Liaoning is paired for prayer with New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, & Delaware. For more info (including my conversation with good friend Brent, a teacher at NSA in Moscow, ID, who used to live there): https://prayforchina.us/index.php/Liaoning/
Tue, July 15 - Pray for Minhe Hui (Muslim) & Tu (Buddhist) Minority County in the mountains along the border of Qinghai and Gansu Province in NW China: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minhe_Hui_and_Tu_Autonomous_County
We’ve been through Minhe many times over the years. I tell one particular story in the latest China Compass podcast, which dropped on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Qinghai is paired with southern Colorado, west TX, and all of New Mexico for prayer. Check out the Qinghai podcast and more: https://prayforchina.us/index.php/qinghai/
Wed, July 16 - Pray for Shangzhou District in Shaanxi's Shangluo Prefecture, the rare region in China I’ve never visited: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shangzhou_District
Shaanxi is paired with Kansas for prayer. For more info, including a podcast interview/conversation I had with my good friend and former Shaanxi resident, Dr. Claud, please visit: https://prayforchina.us/index.php/shaanxi/
Thu, July 17 - Pray for Lanshan District in the heart of Linyi Prefecture, the most populated of Shandong Province: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanshan,_Linyi
Shandong (literally, “Mountain East”) is paired with Virginia (located east of the Appalachian Mountains) for prayer: prayforchina.us/index.php/shandong/
Also, don’t miss my Eric Liddell podcast (Scotland to Shandong on Chariots of Fire) and this longer list of stories about the Shandong martyrs!
Fri, July 18 - Pray for Xinfu District in Xinzhou Prefecture, an obscure region in China’s Shanxi Province: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xinfu_District,_Xinzhou
Shanxi experienced heavy persecution, esp. during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900!
Shanxi is paired with Nebraska for prayer. For more info, including my special podcast about Gladys Aylward, see: https://prayforchina.us/index.php/shanxi/
Sat, July 19 - Pray for Ya’an in the the far eastern foothills of the Tibetan Plateau in central China's Sichuan Province: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ya%27an
I've got some wild stories from the Ya'an region. Listen to last week's podcast to hear a few (near the end): https://pubtv.flfnetwork.com/tabs/the-pub/podcasts/30293
Home of the panda and many Tibetans, Sichuan is matched with Texas for prayer. Listen to my Sichuan podcast (and more): https://prayforchina.us/index.php/sichuan/
*Beginning in early 2024, I began working through each of China’s 31 provinces/regions once per month (on shorter months I skip a smaller, less-populated province), highlighting one new place per day, starting with the most populated in each province. More than a year later, I continue working my way down through each province’s prefecture/city list by population (greatest to least). The goal is to eventually pray for every prefecture, city, and county in China, the vast majority which the average western Christian has never even heard of.
